Beitou History & Introduction
Famous home of hot springs in the Taipei area, Beitou is the most convenient area for travellers visiting Taipei to enjoy authentic thermal hot springs.
During the Japanese occupation, the area around the natural hot springs was developed into a resort destination filled with nice resorts, inns, hotels, tea houses, parks, and public baths.
As a result of its immense popularity, a train line and station were built to attract visitors from far and wide to enjoy the beauty of the area.
*Due to its scenic attraction and best accommodations, Beitou is definitely worth to be listed as a day trip or two during visits to Taiwan.

For a first timer visit to Beitou, you will definitely be astounded with its well-developed surroundings, instead of a calming remote place which everyone thought it should be.
Basically, this place covers a wide range of chain store from MacDonald, KFC, Family Mart, Starbucks, Watsons and other big branded store, feels exactly like situated in Ximending!
Pssst…Shy but still have to mention, we even worried at first and decided to bring some snacks beforehand just in case we can’t find anything to eat while staying in Beitou, silly us! 😉
Delicious Snacks Restaurant
24 Traditional Delicacies (24传统小吃), the best restaurant we ever encountered during our stay in Beitou.
This restaurant serves a variety of Local Taiwanese Snacks, very affordable and finger lickin good!
*Most of the shop and restaurant are operating until 10 pm some even late midnight plus easily accessible just by walking.
Attractions in Beitou
The Hot Spring Trail
While you are travelling in Beitou, do expect there are lots of attraction regarding natural thermal hot spring.
Natural hot spring river in the middle of Beitou city is one of them, you can even witness the huge steamy cloud formed on the surface of the river if you are early and lucky enough!
*In the past, visitors are allowed to boil eggs using the heat of the river but now not anymore due to hygienic and pollution issues.
Public Hot Spring Arbor
Arbor in between the hot spring river, where you can enjoy both steamy hot (from under) and soothing wind at the same time, some local Taiwanese even take a nap on these benches!
Foot Spa Experience
Looking for some FREE hot spring experience? Then you should be heading for Fuxing Park (复兴公园) for the public foot spa centre located nearby.
The foot spa centre is especially crowded during the weekend sessions, fret not, most strangers are very friendly and you might even able to make friend with the locals! 😉
*Besides foot spa, Beitou also offers Public Hot Spring Bath that may have rules regarding gender separation and other regulations.
Fuxing Park Playground
If you have kids then Fuxing Park (复兴公园) would have an extra reason for you to visit other than the foot spa session.
Young parents would gather at the park around the evening just for the great playground facilities that the park has to offer!
*The public toilet, public bathroom and baby room are also included as one of the public facility of the park.
First Green Library
Apart from being famous for its hot springs, Beitou is also home to Taiwan’s first “green” library.
This library was the first building in Taiwan to receive the certification of “Green Building” which makes generous use of French windows and natural light and blends in with the surrounding environment.
When you come to Beitou, besides having a nice soak in the hot springs, you can also visit the Beitou Library for some “forest bathing”—enjoying a good book surrounded by lush greenery, that is! 😉
*This distinctive structure is located in the lush green environment of Beitou Hot Spring Park, near the Beitou Hot Spring Museum.
Ketagalan Culture Center
Ketagalan Culture Center (凯达格兰文物馆) that exhibits traditional life necessaries for indigenous people, musical instruments ritual artefacts and contemporary art crafts.
This is also a place where the audience can experience the cultural beauty and learn the wisdom of indigenous people.
*The centre also hosts indigenous live dance and concert at the main entrance hall on every weekend at 1 pm.
Accommodation in Beitou
Beitou Hot Spring Hotel
Last but not least is regarding the accommodation in Beitou, private hot springs in the Beitou area are very popular, so it is wise to book a hotel room in advance for convenience while travelling.
From our personal point of view, the quality of stay determines the overall satisfaction you can get from Beitou trip, thus it is very important to get the best accommodation as you could!
Most of the hotels do offer FREE private bus pickup from the train station (round trip) so do feel at ease during your stay in Beitou! 😉
