Christmas Eve Buffet Special @ Lemon Garden Cafe, Shangri-la Hotel
Lemon Garden Cafe, Shangri-La Hotel is considered one of the top-notch buffets around Malaysia, serves the most exclusive gastronomic delights especially during festive season.
Today we will unveil what its look like the buffet in Lemon Garden Cafe during Christmas Holiday Season.
The main attraction of the buffet is the “The Seafood Section” also serves as the first stop and everyone’s entree.
The left side of seafood counter covers the Light Poached Lobster, Prawn and Yabbies. The Lobster tends to be overcooked (meat very firm and tight) while prawn still freshies as always.
While the right side of seafood bar consists of – Alaskan King Crab, Crab, Yabbies, Mussels and Scallop.
Alaskan King Crab during this season tastes very satisfying with a rich and sweet texture (the smaller legs are more sweeter than the larger ones).
Can’t get enough with all these seafood? Fret not, each seafood will be refilled within 5 minutes before it goes empty feel free and eat till your heart content!
The normal crab poses not too shabby at all compared to others seafood on the bar, filled with meat in each cross section and best to savour with some wasabi soy condiments!
Sushi & Sashimi Corner
Last but not least is the Sashimi and Sushi at the seafood bar, am getting bored with sushi nowadays so will straight to the point which is the most delicious among all, the Tuna Sashimi (smooth and no blood odour) and Kanpachi Yellow Tail Sashimi (fresh smooth and tender all in one).
This year’s Christmas buffet is considered unlucky due swirling into China Tourist Holiday Tide (60% diners consists of China Tourist), the seafood bar is in huge disaster where most of the fresh seafood is gone within few minutes prior buffet opening (most “people” love to stock bulk ration in their table for no reason), so be sure to attend early if you wish to enjoy those big chunks of seafood. 😉
Cold Cut & Appetizer
Fresh Cold Cuts to fit the Christmas theme buffet – Smoked Salmon with Lemon and Capers, Marinated Chicken Roulade, Beef Pepperoni with Chipotle Mayonaise, Smoked Salami, Shrimp with Vegetables and Salmon Tartare with Creme Fraiche.
Marinated Chicken Roulade is a slice of chicken roll with its own skin which has a spinach meatball stuffing in the centre, taste palatable with the chipotle mayonnaise dippings.
Salmon Tartare is another fantastic dish from the cold cuts, minced smoked salmon are extreme flavourful with spices and raw shallot mix.
Whole fresh chilled steamed salmon served with thousand island sauce for those who prefer to have cooked salmon meat flakes.
Delectable fresh oyster is in the same section as well, this year oyster tastes extremely delish with salty and creamy texture, can be savoured straight or uses just a light drizzle of lemon juice to enhance the flavour.
The Western Section covers a wide range of western dishes especially during the Christmas Season. Roasted Whole Turkey with Apple Stuffings, Cranberry Chutney, Giblet Sauce, Brussel Sprout, and Roasted Potato crown as the main dish in this section.
Turkey meat is very dry even with the help of sauces, personally not too enjoy this dish.
A delectable western dishes also served in the section – Seafood Ragout with Vegetables, Stuffed Potato Skin with Vegetables and Herb, Vegetable Ratatouille, Grilled Chicken Thigh with Vegetable Confit, Lamb Stew with Vegetables and Baked Crab in Shells.
Lamb Stew with Vegetables is considered the most delicious throughout the western dish, slow-cooked succulent lamb shank with great spices flavour.
Not sure why Lemon Garden Cafe decided to switch their carving station (usually serving roasted beef or lamb) into tempura station. Utterly disappointed and haven’t tried any of these tempuras cause it has a super thick batter skin and just too common for a fine dining buffet.
Might as well go for Le Meridien, Latest Recipe Cafe for the best Tempura’s serving in Buffet.
Malay & Indian Section
The Malay and Indian Section is where they serve the Malaysia finest curries dishes, rice, roti, satay and tandoori. You can expect to have these local curry dishes – Flower Crab Masak Lemak, Curry Fish Head, Curry Chicken, Kurma Lamb, Mamak Style Stir Fried Vegetables, Seafood Tom Yum Soup, Ikan Masak Lemak, Roti Canai and Roti Daging.
Want to try out the premium grade of mamak feast? Go grab a plate of Plain Nasi Briyani then flood it up with plenty of curries and meat then Selamat Menjamu Selera!
The Malay traditional salad and condiments are also available in the same section, while most of the salad is made from raw vegetables which give refreshing sensation to the palate.
Recommend to try some of them if you are adventurous enough but be sure only to take a small portion of each cause most of them are extremely spicy 😉
Nyonya Curry Laksa Corner
When you see “Nyonya Curry Laksa” and its cooking stall marks that you are entering the Chinese Zone (section). Chinese Section is consists of all times favourite Chinese food and delicacies, so you surely don’t want to miss the famous Nyonya Curry Laksa.
Nyonya Curry Laksa tend to be one of the most popular dishes throughout this buffet session due to the fragrance of curry laksa soup base which can be smelled from few footsteps away and the generous amount of ingredient inside a bowl.
Be smart by asking a small bowl of this toothsome little bastard otherwise you will be ended up stepping into the “Buffet Trap” aka Kenyang White Flag while everyone just about to start their feast 😉
Dim Sum Corner
Next up from the Nyonya Curry Laksa corner is a mouth-watering pau, dim sum and fritters section.
Featuring Dim Sum’s handmade by the chef from Shang Palace (Chinese Restaurant in Shangri-la), if you love the taste and types of dim sum, you may consider taking the Hi-Tea Dim Sum Buffet at Shang Palace during the weekend.
Chinese Hot Dishes
Right after Dim Sum is an array of Chinese hot dishes ranging from – Kam Heong Stir-Fry Prawn, Sweet and Sour Pork, Stir-fry Mushroom and Sea Cucumber, Steam Cod Fish and Stir Fry Bok Choi.
Kam Heong Tiger Prawn and Steam Cod Fish is the fast clearance dish (must be awesome delicious) based on personal observation.
Roast Chicken & Soup
The last section in Chinese area serves roasted chicken, duck and boiled soup. A few sound from the gong will be bashed to alert diners, once a new badge of chicken/duck is chopped well-arrange and available at the counter.
Rooted in Nature & Healthy Corner
Rooted in nature serves various types of western salad comes with the theme where all vegetable used must grow from the ground until harvest.
The mashed potato with tuna flakes salad is my personal favourite in this area.
Healthy corner serves various types of Mediterranean salad which mostly comes with a generous drizzle of olive oil.
Try some of these dishes and grasp the way of Mediterranean people living a healthy lifestyle.
Feel free to visit Hadramawt for the best Middle Eastern Food in town.
The Italian Section offers gastronomic Italian dining with a twist, matched with excellent bread and cheese of the day.
At this lively buffet session, the best seasonal produce from Italy is showcased with its flavours expressed in exciting new ways – Pasta, Saffron Rice, Pizza and many more.
Be sure to try out Teriyaki Smoked Salmon Stick and Neopolitan Pizza (Tomato, Mozzarella Cheese and Basil Leaf) which is the fast-moving dishes.
During this Christmas Festive Season, Lemon Garden buffet also offers bottomless fruit punch; Grapefruit Juice, Guava Juice, Fruit Punch and Mocktail Punch as an extra quench thirst option (along with sky juice, coffee and tea which is free).
Other than that, diners may also opt for Fine Wines, Can Beverage or Liquor with an extra charge.
Whole Cakes Corner
Be sure to keep some space on the tummy because Christmas is all about Sweets and Dessert!
Lemon Garden Cafe had never let us down on this very section by presenting a dulcet amount of seasonal cakes – Salted Caramel Fudge, Gianduja Fuelletine, Raspberry Cassis, Christmas Cake Log and Christmas Fruit Cake.
Want to know a hidden benefit by dining in Lemon garden Cafe? You can achieve this by attending the dessert section early and cut open all those cakes by yourself! Trust me, it’s a memorial thing to do especially for your personal birthday celebration 😉
Pancake & Bread Pudding
There is also a benefit by attending early at the dessert section, you can actually taste the hottest and crispy bread pudding freshly bake from the oven.
Pancake with custom flavours will be made upon request at the same row with bread pudding.
Personally had missed the pancake section which is a sad case due to the extravaganza volume of food to try but it must be good since it is freshly made!
Kuih-Muih & Ice Kacang Corner
Local Kuih-Muih and Ice Kacang are presented along the bar for those who love to have some Nyonya snacks.
Homemade sherbet is available at the end of the bar with tons of condiments to pair with, sherbet on that day are literally unsavoury due to the very ice melts turns into some sort coloured fluid (unless you love melted ice cream).
A various types of Cakes and Pastries – Tropical Tiramisu, Strawberry Clafoutie, Morello Berry Linzer Tart, Coconut Raisin Tart, Apricot Almond, Chocolate Crumble, Dolce De Leche Eclair, Macadamia Nut Brownies, Fruit Tart, Coffee Chocolate Sable, Pistachio Dates Jocteur, Acajou Choc Tart, Orange Cheese Cake, Salted Caramel Fudge Cake, Raspberry Red Velvet, Black Forest, Dates Jocteur Tart, Greentea Tiramisu with Red Bean, Mango Coconut Flan, Strawberry Fraisier, Pecan Tart.
All dessert are bite-sized to encourage diners to pick a few different types for a delightful experience, personally picked more due to it and struggle until the end of the meal 😉
Feel bored by having plain fruits? Here in Lemon Garden Buffet also serves Black/White Chocolate Fondue where you can dip and nom nom like other sweets, no more hassle on eating fruits!
Shangri-La Chrismas Decoration
Major Christmas Theme in Shangri-la Hotel this year, mainly used to raising charity fund donation for kids and infants. Each ball in the Christmas tree engraved kids detail and fund needed for surgery, let us pray and wish the best for all of them.
The overall buffet in Lemon Garden this year was slightly under average since most of the dishes listed in the menu is being changed especially “Roasted Meat becomes Tempura” without prior notice.
If you are aiming for seafood feast only, Lemon Garden is still the best buffet places to visit.
