*Must Try* Authentic Traditional Hainanese Bread Cafe – Chop Jing Chew (瀛洲号)
Chop Jing Chew Introduction
It’s 3.00pm and its time for our high tea routine, if you are situated in Brunei then you wouldn’t want to miss a yum cha session in Chop Jing Chew.
Chop Jing Chew has been operating since 1946 which specializes in Classic Hainanese homemade bread, a popular and iconic place for Bruneians to gather during tea time – the restaurant has been nostalgic for locals while the phenomenon just proves that how good this cafe gonna be! 😉
*Chop Jing Chew serves their popular pillowy buns fresh from the oven at 3.00pm onwards, so be sure to come here around that time.
Signature Kuning Kahwin
Our local high tea experience starts with a plate of Chop Jing Chew’s Signature Bread, Roti Kuning Kahwin BWD 1.00 – yellow toasted bread serves with a generous amount of kaya and thick pieces of butter.
The bread has a perfectly soft and fluffy texture, Kaya has a sweet scent of coconut along with a smooth runny yolk texture, while the thick frozen butter pretty much sums up everything with additional moist and flavoring – personally thinks that this Kuning Kahwin might on par or tastes way better than Hong Kong Polobun! 😉
*Roti Kuning also have two other variations for you to choose from: Kuning Kosong (plain yellow bread) and Kacang Kahwin (kaya, butter, and additional peanut).
Popular Kacang Kahwin
Next up, is the Roti Kacang Kahwin BWD 1.20 which is another popular option among customers – round burger bread stuffed with kaya, butter and finely ground peanuts.
Overall taste like Roti Kahwin earlier but with irresistible crunchy texture and nutty fragrance from the additional ground peanut toppings.
*Due to heat from the pan (for toasting the bread), it is advised to consume those bread asap prior serve to avoid butter to melt and become seriously nasty.
Homemade Soy Bean Milk
Our top choice of drink in Chop Jing Chew, homemade non-preservatives soybean milk BWD 1.00 – only offers a limited amount per day, so grab it while you can! 😉
While compared to other brands out there, Chop Jing Chew soybean milk tastes richer, less sweet, no beans impurities and most importantly it is good for our health.
This old style bread cafe also offers common drink such as: teh c, teh o, kopi o, kopi peng, milo ais and many more.
Roti Tapau Balik
Well its time for us to say goodbye to Chop Jing Chew but how about if we miss their bread again? Easy, just tapau more of those hot fluffy bread and take away with you lar! 😉
Other than the got-married bread (roti yang dah kahwin), there is still a huge variety of single/virgin bread, chiffon, cake, puff and many more for you to explore at their counter – personally recommends their peanut bun and egg tart.
*Apart from married bread, those bread, chiffon, cake, puffs from take away counter are available all day long since the opening hour of the cafe.
