*Must Try* Best Peking Duck in Town – Village Roast Duck 郷村烧鸭
Where is the best restaurant to enjoy delicious Chinese roasted meat in a mall? Besides Canton-I (which we banned due to common distress behavior from their waitress on each visit) we would say Village Roast Duck 郷村烧鸭 are nonetheless the best choice up to date.
Village Roast Duck 郷村烧鸭 is gradually growing over these years (by opening few more outlets) and genuinely earn positive feedback from customers (very good dining experience) from time to time.
Fish Skin Prosperity Yee Sang
Our Chinese New Year dining session in Village Roast Duck starts with a Prosperity Salmon Yee Sang (发财三文鱼捞生) RM68.00 which features a classic Yee Sang appearance with an added twist (fish skin) as the main ingredient besides raw salmon slices.
As usual, the waiter will handle the “Pouring” job for you along with “Words of Blessings”, be generous with red packet “Ang Pau” to the waiter (as a token of appreciation) before mixing up the Yee Sang. 😉
The Yee Sang portion is rather big (compared to other restaurants) and definitely has the classic Yee Sang taste which we loved the most.
Crispy Fish Skin (non-greasy smell and very crispy) is surprisingly very compatible with Yee Sang and raw salmon slices.
If given the chance to vote, we would say this is the best Yee Sang we had eaten in the year 2018!
Succulent Peking Duck
We spent almost 30 minutes on clearing Yee Sang before moving into our main course – Peking Duck with Pancake (北京片皮鸭) RM44.80 half portion
There is two major method to savor this succulent roast duck while the first and most direct way would be dipping into the homemade shrimp chili sauce then eat straight away.
We called it the “Bossy” way cause you are not gonna fill your empty stomach by having it plain (unless you order more) and you will definitely be ended up stacking slabs of leftover pancakes on the table. 😉
This is the second method and considers the right way to enjoy Peking Duck, spread duck sauce on the pancake, arrange roast duck, cucumber, scallion accordingly then wrap and voila!
From this method, you can truly savor the “True Taste” of Peking Duck while munching through it, too much difference in taste compared when consuming it directly.
Lo Hon Mixed Vegetables
Due to the guilt of having too much roast duck, we decided to add Lo Hon Mixed Vegetables (罗汉斋) RM18.90 into our order list.
This simple stir-fry vegetable featuring Kai-Lan, Dried Beancurd, Mushroom, Celery, Black Fungus, Baby Corn and Green Peas.
Taste very intense especially with the oyster sauce, not the right flavor that we had been expecting for Lo Hon style, but still indeed delicious if you treat it as a normal stir-fry vegetable.
Tasty Braised Vermicelli with Seafood
We ordered another dish as a filler during this dining session – Braised Vermicelli with Seafood (黑松露海鲜焖米粉) RM28.90
Based on our first impression upon seeing this dish, we thought it’s gonna be bad since the dish presentation was bad (all plain white) and seemingly dry. But hey, don’t always judge a book by its cover!
The vermicelli is actually very soft (after braised) flavourful packed with seafood such as Scallop, Prawn, and Squid while each bite is always filled with surprise from those camouflage ingredients like enoki mushroom, shallot, and garlic. Personally would rate this dish AAA grade with two thumbs up and recommend everyone to try it out! 😉
Village Roast Duck 郷村烧鸭 gives us a feel like having dinner from home (except there is maid/waiter all around standby for service), very stress-free and is a great place where you can enjoy food like a “Loris” without worry getting kicked out from the restaurant. The only down part is that this restaurant is having a very limited space which might have to queue during peak hours.
