*Must Try* Yummylicious Authentic Japanese Curry Rice @ Shokudo Restaurant
A faint sweet curry flavour slips out the door once we pass by, this is the right feelings to describe how we stumble on “Shokudo” Japanese Curry Rice the true hidden gem around Taman Paramount, Petaling Jaya.
Shokudo Japanese Curry Rice runs their business in a traditional way which resembles the “Canteen” look-alike in Japan. Simple decoration comes with a friendly environment; everyone able to share a long table with strangers and chats to the heart content without any restrictions (just like the old days in primary school).
Marinated Duck Breast
Meal in Shokudo starts with a delightful Zensai (entree) Aigamo Rousuni RM10.00 featuring marinated thin sliced duck breast meat serves with stir-fried shredded onion.
This combination of roast duck, soy sauce and onion tastes very appetizing while giving us a desperate craving for next dishes at the same time.
Chicken Meatball Skewer
Tsukune Tare (skewered chicken meatball) RM8.00 is also one of the well-loved dishes in Shokudo, especially among the young ones.
Delectable soft chewy skewered meatball is the best thing to have while you are looking for some finest ‘kill-time” snacks in this restaurant. Personally would give it a hearty manten (full score) if there are some spring onion garnishes sprinkled on the meatballs. 😉
Tonkatsu Curry Rice
In order to get the most value out of it, we ordered a Tonkatsu Curry Rice Set RM26.00 which comes with an extra salad, soup and Ocha (free flow green tea).
Shokudo Signature Curry Rice is served with Steamed Rice, Tonkatsu (fried pork cutlet), Curry Broth and Pickles which gives us a very good home run impression just by seeing it (exactly like the one we used to have in Japan).
Succulent Fried Pork Cutlet have a crisp outer layer and tastes scrumptious while digging in with steamed rice and curry broth (a lot different flavour ongoing during the chew-chew session which is hard to describe but undoubtedly is a perfect curry dish which is worth to die for).
An additional Omu (Omelette) is mandatory for those who seek more in-depth flavour of curry rice, a runny egg from the inside is soft and strongly packed with buttery flavour deem to be compatible with the curry as well.
Pork Curry Udon
Apart from curry rice, Shokudo also made famous with their Butaniku Curry Udon Set RM23.00 (inc onsen egg, salad, ocha) which serves a generous amount of stir-fried sliced pork as toppings.
It has an irresistible rich thickness curry broth which tastes similar to the curry rice but you gotta switch your eating mode from “Chew” to “Slurp”.
Personally would prefer Udon Kobo Min Min Version over this Curry Udon which adds an extra chewy consistency towards their homemade udon.
Set Upgrade Benefits
By upgrading into set meal, not only that you enjoy an extra bowl of soup and salad, you are also entitled to a free flow of hot/cold green tea drinks during meal session in Shokudo.
Just head over to the main counter (where you place meal order) and help yourself with those beverages 😉
Other than Ocha, Shokudo also offers a varied range of beverages from soft drinks, juice, beer and soju with additional charges.
Shokudo Interesting Scenery
Sake Kai Tanuki 酒買狸 (Sake Racoon Dog). Depicted with big tummy, staff, giant scrotum, straw hat, sake flask, and promissory note. A welcoming icon found frequently outside Japan’s bars and eateries with the proud motto “come in, don’t be stingy”.
If you are brave enough, there are also 1×1 costume sells in Japan that you might want to wear and show us in the upcoming Malaysia Cosplay Session 😉
Japanese famous Kumamoto mascot icon which brings good luck and fortune, you can find a lot of them in a different shape in Kumamoto Prefecture, Japan.
Tons of other decorations at the other side of the wall, not sure if they would lend it out as a play toy but you can definitely spend time observing them at a close distance while waiting for your meal to be served! 😉
Looking for a free and easy place to have a proper Japanese curry rice meal? Shokudo is definitely in the top selection of the list that you might want to visit!
