Good Ol’ Hong Kong Dim Sum @ Old Friend Dim Sum
Dim Sum culture is popular and even serve as a breakfast, lunch or even dinner among Chinese in Malaysia. The Old Fried Hong Kong Dim Sum is one of the famous dim sum restaurants around Puchong area that has been operated for more than 10 years and still serving the best classic dim sum in Malaysia.
Fresh Dim Sum Display
There is no menu provided in this restaurant, what you see is what you will get from the raw sample present on a side table (classic dim dum style). Every dim sum will only be steam or fried prior order. A quite different procedure compared to other restaurants which only serves ready cook dim sum nowadays.
Crunchy Fritter Dim Sum
The fritter type dim sum arrives relatively fast compared to the steam ones, consists a plate of Fried Beancurd Prawn Roll RM6.00 and Fried Prawn Dumpling RM6.00 still piping hot upon arrival. Both have a succulent crisp on the crust (with fresh whole prawn as fillings) and tastes heavenly good with a dip of mayonnaise.
Specialty Steam Dim Sum
The steam type Dim Sum arrived a few minutes later which consists of Pork Siu Mai (烧卖) RM5.90, Quail Egg Siu Mai (鹌鹑蛋卖) RM5.90 and Pork Ribs with Braised Soy Bean (豆是排骨) RM5.90.
Quail Egg Siu Mai is a special type of Classic Dim Sum which rarely being served due to health concern (quail egg have very high cholesterol content) in this modern society. After having the first bite, quail egg can be clearly seen on top of the dumpling.
Extra Stuffings Siu Mai
We ordered an extra badge of Pork Siu Mai (烧卖) RM5.90 along with Beancurd Roll (腐竹卷) RM5.90 and Pork Ball Glutinous Rice (糯米糍) RM5.90 for a full course experience.
The Pork Siu Mai gives us a huge surprise where there are at least two pieces of fresh shrimps inside each dumpling mixing up with the pork fillings (majority restaurant only serves Plain Minced Pork Siu Mai). This Siu Mai can almost replace the Har Gao Dumpling (虾饺) with the generosity presence of the prawn.
Exclusive Fish Slice Dumpling
Instead of the Pork Ball Glutinous Rice (糯米糍) RM5.90, The Fish Slice Dumpling (鱼片卖) RM8.90 is also one of the best sellers in the restaurant. This dish uses fresh grouper fish slices and fish ball as the perfect combination for this dumpling. A drizzle of Chinese rice wines and grated ginger enhance the overall taste which drives us to come back for more after several days.
Triple A’s Stir-Fry Turnip Cake
The Stir-fry Turnip Cake (炒萝卜糕) RM7.90 is the best dish to fills up the stomach gap. A combination of Turnip Cake, Bean Sprout, Egg, Spring Onion, Chilli Paste and Pickled Radish have used to stir-fry this dish. This dish is a successful stir-fry turnip cake version by having a light crisp brown crust on each side of the turnip cake while not letting it burnt (a very waste of time cooking method to achieve this effect).
Don’t hesitate to order a pot of hot tea to enjoy this whole dim sum meal.
Do try Jin Xuan Dim Sum for a more variety Dim Sum Restaurant along with Wanton Noodles.
