Qingtiangang Grassland Trails (擎天崗) – The Highland Mountain Path
A mountain-top flatland park, Qingtiangang (擎天崗) provides amazing views of Yangmingshan National Park.
This is by far one of the best spots to have some fresh air in Taipei while enjoying scenic greenery view at the same time.
*This area of Yangmingshan is very easily shrouded in clouds due to its elevation so it is wise to visit this area before noon.
Qingtiangang (擎天崗) was formed as a result of volcanic activity (eruption of Mt. Zhugao) in the mountains nearby.
After the eruption, the lava flowed north towards the area, creating this unique grassy landscape.
Qingtiangang is well known for its hiking activities so if you are interested to feel free to take on the challenge, you will get a scenic unparallel view of Mountains (as a reward) once you have reached the peak! 😉
*There are a few hiking trail option for you to choose, all have a different length and leads to different destinations around Yangmingshan.
During the Japanese occupation, the area was established as a ranch for cattle to graze, as of today, the park is still home to cows and other wildlife.
You might want to look out for each step you are taking since there are heaps of cow dunk scattering everywhere along the trail (like landmines), plus the “ammonia gas” that relentlessly attacks your nostrils when the wind direction is right! 😉
*The cows were extremely friendly to take a photo with but it is advised not to feed them with outside food.
When there is a view, of course, there will always be a romance growing on the same spot!
Instead of wedding photo shootings, we also witness a bunch of graduates and honeymoon couple everywhere around the mountain who are having fun with selfies.
Being drowned by such “lovey-dovey” environment, we sincerely hope that one of them would step on the landmines (cow dunk) on their way home! Nah, just joking!! 😉
