Shifen Waterfall (十份大瀑布) – Taiwan Most Scenic Nature Wonders
Shifen is well known for the Shifen Waterfall (十分大瀑布), a 40-metre tall waterfall that creates a rainbow as it splashes into the lake, widely regarded as the most scenic in all of Taiwan.
The train station located down the river from the waterfall area, originally built for transporting coal, was built right alongside the Shifen Old Streets (十分老街), and today stands as a reminder of Taiwan’s history and culture.
*The waterfall is located 30 minutes away from Shifen Old Streets by walking along either side of the railway tracks in the northeast direction.
Along the Walking Trail
Although the journey to Shifen Waterfall might get a bit weary, however, the outcome is definitely worth it if you are there to enjoy a scenic view of the mother nature.
Take a walk while looking around the surrounds and you are sure to be astounded with the nature artwork nearby; crystal clear river water with a school of fish or mini-waterfall right before reaching the real deal! 😉
Our furry discovery on this Shifen Waterfall expedition, a caterpillar climbing back and forth just looking for the best spot to proceed with its metamorphosis project.
Smart Tips: Do keep an eye with the bridge handlebars cause you might just bump into one of two of these “Itchy” little cuties! 😉
The Great Shifen Waterfall
The noise of waterfall is getting louder and louder once you are one step closer the main destinations – The Shifen Waterfall (十分大瀑布).
There are three major viewing spots; Point A, Point B and Point C to stand and admire the beauty of the waterfall, so be sure to visit all of them to figure out the perfect angle (of viewing) for yourself! 😉
Shifen Waterfall Other Tourist Attraction
Apart from stone made stool and tables for relaxation purposes, a smooth wide jogging track (which covers the whole attraction) is also available in Shifen Waterfall caters for people who tend to work out themselves.
After done with the waterfall then how about having some lucky charm before getting back? In Shifen Waterfall also home for the Four-faced Buddha (四面佛) where you can write down your wish on a red paper, pray and lastly tie a knot (using the paper) on the trees nearby.
There is also a non-moving merry go round fare around the temple if you desperately want some free horse ride! 😉
If you are thinking Shifen Waterfall is just a “no man’s land” (like what we did at first) which lacking attractions and infrastructures then you are totally wrong.
In fact, Shifen Waterfall nowadays is bustling with food stalls and cafes which serves a variety of delicious finger food just like the outside world!
The Rock Candies (冰糖葫芦) and Iced Winter Lemonade (冬瓜檸檬茶) is our personal highly recommended treat to try out among all the stalls, Thick Sliced Jerky (厚切肉干) is the best souvenirs which you can get from the destination as well.
