The Royal Regalia Museum – Chronology of Bruneian Sultan’s
The Royal Regalia Museum (Muzium Alat Kebesaran Diraja) was officially opened on 30 September 1992 by His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan Negara Darussalam.
The Royal Regalia building has been designed to incorporate various characteristics of the philosophy of Malay Islamic Monarchy and has become another interesting landmark to visit in Bandar Seri Begawan.
This building displays a large number of the royal artifact and monument that has been inherited from generations, as a glorious pride of the Bruneians.
The museum has a very strict rule regarding cleanliness hence shoes off before entering the building, a pair of clean white slipper is also provided on top of the shoe rack if you don’t feel comfy walking with “Kaki Ayam” (barefoot).
Once you are done with registration at the main counter and lock your personal belongings on the locker, the real journey begins! 😉
*No photo shooting allowed at the first & second-floor gallery, so we only managed to show the surrounding picture for ground floor only. Do read The Islamic Art Museum post which covers roughly 60% similar exhibition artefacts.
Coronation & Sultan’s Royal Chariot
The museum ground floor is a simulation hall showcases Brunei Sultan Coronation Ceremony along with all regalias used during the coronation event.
Royal Chariot on which his majesty rode enthroned during the royal procession or parade carrying the Sultan through the streets of the city on the occasion of his 1992 silver jubilee celebration.
Now, who needs a batman mobile if you have one of these luxury shiny golden men made Rolls Royce? 🙂
Royal Regalia Artifact
Other than Royal Chariot, regalias that accompanied the Royal Chariot are also displayed on the same floor.
Imagine the large men power used just to escort along the Royal Chariot during the Royal Procession!
Lembing dan Taming – Royal Spears and Decorated Shields
Pedang Kerajaan dan Perisai – Royal Swords and Royal Shields
Dian Alam Bernaga – Special Candles
Tombak Benderangan – Spears Plated in Gold
Payung Warna – Multicoloured Umbrellas
Payung Kawan – Checkered Umbrellas
Souvenirs & Gift Shop
There is also a small gift shop inside the museum which sells handicraft souvenirs for those who are interested, the price is reasonable and definitely cheaper than buying from the airport! 🙂
Personally would say is a worthy visit (since it is free of charge) for those who are interested in Islamic Monument & Artifacts or just solely want to feel the historic grandeur of the Brunei Royal Family!
