*Lunch* Aji-Shi Pork King (阿水狮猪脚大王) – Super Delicious Braised Pork Knuckle
In Taiwan Culture, having pork knuckle is a means of “Repels any Misfortunes” while the mee sua represents “Longevity in Life”. Thus, it is important for Taiwanese to have a delicious and perfect bowl of Braised Pork Knuckle Mee Sua (猪脚面线) during some special occasions such as birthday celebration.
The Aji-Shi Pork King (阿水狮猪脚大王) is a well-known restaurant (including among local celebrities and politicians) in Taiwan for serving the best-braised pork knuckle, after having such a great feedback, it is quite impossible for us (pork lover) to miss such exquisite delicacies during our first visit to Taipei! 😉
*The Aji-Shi Pork King outlet is at Zhong Xiao Dun Hua Station (MRT) Exit 2 which is nearby Eslite Bookstore only.
Signature Pork Knuckle Mee Sua
We ordered a Braised Pork Knuckle Mee Sua set (猪脚面线便当) NT$150 which is a must have and consists of Braised Pork Knuckle, Bamboo Shoots, Dried Tofu Skin and Mee Sua.
Pork Knuckle – Rich flavourful pork knuckle with smooth and sticky texture plus lots of soft collagen (skin) attaches to chew on, very enjoyable!
Mee Sua – Very thin and springy (not soggy at all) almost on par with Hong Kong’s Wantan noodle while produces fragrant sesame oil aroma on each bite.
Overall the combination was superb but do remember to request for less sesame oil and bamboo shoots if you dislike their taste.
*Do consider on the rice meal set which is equally delicious if you do not feel like having the mee sua set
Famous Pork Tendon Set
If you are still craving for extra “Collagen” in your meal then feel free on having the a’la carte Pork Tendon Set (红烧蹄筋) NT$120 which indeed very toothsome and gelatinous!
Pork Tendon texture (soft and flaccid) might not be everyone’s cup of tea but the Aji-Shi version manage to provides an additional firm crunchy texture that will make you addicted to it.
*Highly recommend enjoying these scrumptious delicacies with their special homemade chilli sauce which provided at the nearby counter
Our Conclusion – The Aji-Shi Pork King (阿水狮猪脚大王) is considered as a two-way edge for non-locals, it is either you love the taste and combinations or otherwise. Most of the Taiwanese gave them a negative feedback due to their services (personal manners) but we honestly felt okay during our visit, they don’t smile doesn’t mean that they hate you right? Generally, the deliciousness overrides every negative thought we had about this restaurant thus we recommend them as a “should visit”on our list especially for those first timers! 😉
