*Must Try* An Evolution of Japanese Shaved Ice @ Kakigori
Kakigōri, being well known as Japanese handmade shaved ice flavoured with fresh fruits and premium ingredients is an evolution of the classics which uses only artificial coloured syrup as toppings.
The new generation of Japanese shaved ice is sure to bring a breeze of cool air to Malaysia with a solid guarantee that they never add any unhealthy artificial colouring, flavouring or any fruit concentrate on their production (which definitely worth a try).
Elderberry & Elder Flower Espuma
Kakigori’s Elderberry & Elder Flower Espuma RM19.00 is a new flavour on shaved ice series. The generous portion of shaved ice (each bowl) is big enough to be shared across 2-3 person which is considered worth.
A whole mountain of shaved ice is filled with elderberry syrup all over with a thick layer of Espuma (froth) is added as toppings. Tastes exactly like having a chilled wild berry yoghurt which gives kicks of sweet and sour berry flavour.
As you venture further into the shaved ice, there will be a little surprise awaiting (chunks of cheese) which will greatly enhance the overall flavour. A fair two thumbs rating is all it takes for this delectable dessert.
For those who do not fancy about elderberry, Kakigori also serves an extensive range of flavours; Uji Matcha, Tiramisu, Watermelon, Japanese Pumpkin, Chestnut Milk, Avocado, Guava and many more!
Omugi Soup & Matcha Ice Cream
Omugi Soup with Matcha Ice Cream RM18.00 is the most mind-boggling hot dessert that we encounter during our dessert session in Kakigori.
This set comes with a bowl of hot barley with green tea ice cream and toasted peanut as toppings (omugi soup), a bowl of adzuki red bean and green tea mochi, plus a flower scent sweet syrup.
The actual proper way to enjoy these hot dessert is to mix everything into the Omugi soup then voila. However, you can actually taste it separately beforehand and mix everything up eventually for a better tasting experience.
Omugi Soup tastes toothsome and especially flavourful with a strong combination of green tea and adzuki bean on each spoonful. A very good alternative sweet treats for those who suffer sensitive teeth or older age group of people (who dislike cold stuff).
Hojicha Roll Cake
Kakigori also made famous with their Hojicha Roll Cake RM10.00 apart from shaved ice and hot desserts.
This brownish Hojicha Roll Cake is served with a generous amount of refining Hojicha paste and fresh cream in the core and tends to be more delicious with a healthy amount of soy powder as toppings. Definitely a great dessert to have during the hi-tea session.
For those who dislike the bitter taste from Hojicha, do opt for the Uji Matcha Roll Cake instead which has an irresistible strong scent of green tea.
Kakigori Self Service Mode
Unlike any other shaved ice outlet, Kakigori runs a self-service procedure which requires everyone to follow the rules if you are to dine-in.
The self-service module starts right after you have made your order from the front counter.
Ticket Number & Collect
The order number will be announced from the right top corner of a wall (check your own number from order receipt) and you should be collecting your dessert from one of the decorated shelves above once being called.
Seems very awkward at first but feels quite energetic (something to do at least) and mysterious (like the hidden ninja bookshelf) after some tries! 😉
Dessert Utensils & Drinks
Do help yourself by gearing up for the latest dessert equipment just right beside the front counter; spoon, fork, chopsticks, straw and tissues.
A Free flow of sky juice is also available at the exact same spot for those who need to quench thirst.
The Return Counter
Before leaving, do remember to clear the table by sending everything to the “return counter” and it marks the end cycle of self-service schedule in Kakigori’s!
Kakigori is truly a sweet tooth paradise which offers brand new cold and hot dessert originated from Japan. Whenever you mention about Japanese dessert, Kakigori is definitely a one must have on the list!
