The Singaporean Pioneer Bak Kut Teh – Old Street Bak Kut Teh (老街肉骨茶)
Old Street Bak Kut Teh Introduction
Founded in 2010, Old Street pride itself to be the local specialist in the well-loved traditional herbal pork ribs soup. It’s unique East meets West approach, with its own special creation like the Old Street Bak Kut Teh, freshly made soybean milk is a must try on the list.
We have the urge to try Singapore Bak Kut Teh (since the beginning) mainly because Bak Kut Teh is considered one of the staple choices during our weekend lunch, and most importantly, Singaporean style Bak Kut Teh is well known to be different if compared to Malaysian ones in term of taste and appearance.
*The Old Street Bak Kut Teh we visited is located inside Suntec City Food Court, do try to avoid their peak hour which is around 12 pm and 6 pm daily.
Premium Loin Ribs Bak Kut Teh
First up, is the Old Street Bak Kut Teh signature dish “Premium Loin Ribs” (特级龙骨) $18.80 – serves with a bowl of pork loin bak kut teh, chili garlic mixed condiments and plain rice.
The pork loin given is truly premium class where it is soft and succulent, soup is the real essence which made the overall dish so yummy – tastes peppery & garlicky (just like having white pepper soup) and have a mild spicy kick right after each sip of it, feels very warm and satisfying.
*Old Street Bak Kut Teh specialty also includes; pork ribs soup, seafood bak kut teh and dry bak kut teh.
Braised Pig’s Intestines
While enjoying Old Street Bak Kut Teh, we also ordered another side dish from the menu, Braised Pig’s Intestines $8.00 – pork intestines serve with braised black soybean sauce.
If you love to have pork innards, then you should try Old Street’s variations – the braised pig’s intestines are soft and chewy filled with black soy sauce fragrance on each bite, each one of them (the intestines) is being clean very thoroughly so can definitely eat at ease! 😉
* Old Street’s other side dishes menu; braised chicken feet, braised peanuts, preserved vegetables, tau kee (bean curd skin), tau pok (fried bean curd) and braised egg.
Pork Kidney’s Soup
Right after digging into our meal, we just realized that they actually also serves one of our favorites “Pork Kidney’s Soup” $8.00 – plain soup serves with pork kidney slices.
The overall taste is very clean (non-bloody irony odor), texture makes a huge difference whether it is a good or bad kidney’s soup (well done yet very soft and crunchy), tastes even better while savoring with the chili garlic soy sauce! 😉
*Other exotic pork soup in the menu; pig stomach soup, sliced pork tenderloin soup, pig liver soup and many more.
