Ximending (西門町) – The Youth Shopping District
The “Harajuku” of Taipei, this pedestrian shopping haven is one of the city’s cultural centres, hosting a massive variety of fashion clothing shops, eclectic restaurants, clubs, and bars.
Ximending (西門町) was founded during the Japanese colonisation era as a recreation district, and today has grown into a cultural icon with inspiration drawn from its Japanese roots.
The area is very popular with tourists and Taipei youth where you can feel the lively scenic once you have stepped into this area.
Fashion Shopping Haven
Ximending houses hundreds of fashion boutique with various style from Taiwan, Korea, China, Japan and much more!
Basically, you name it they will definitely have it in this district with a very reasonable price.
If you are such big fans in getting the latest fashion, Ximending is one of trendy stop that you must visit! 😉
The Boxes Merchandise Shop
This is by far the most win-win shop that we saw in the Ximending district, the boxes merchandise shop that accepts and sells everything.
The shop has few racks with various size of boxes column which is available for rent – to those who wants to sell their unwanted personal new/used items.
There are professional shopkeeper who will take care of their merchandise and gets a share of profit if any item successfully sold out.
The Toy-Grabbing Machine
These mini-games are a hit among Taiwanese youth nowadays that makes you get very popular (surrounding crowd) if you are very good with it.
From soft toy to PlayStation games, everything is made possible to become a reward from the grabbing machine (since each machine have a very different theme) while the price varies depending on which game you are playing.
This is a great place to spend some pennies if you are looking forward to some exciting toy-grabbing moment! 😉
Street Art Culture
Street Performance is one of the Ximending cultures that you won’t be missing while walking along the district.
Shows vary from solo rap, funky dance, clown performance and much more which happening in each section of the road.
Not going to say it was perfect but at least much entertaining that manages to earn our respects and donations support! 😉
Food Haven District
You wouldn’t want to tell other people that you had been to Ximending without trying any of their food stalls.
There are hundreds of food stalls located inside Ximending which sells delicious finger food that can compete with the Shihlin Nightmarket.
Don’t hesitate in trying some of them since you are always being pardon for another chance while hanging out in Ximending!
Ximending Hidden Menu
The very eye-catching blue and white packaging which holds on every bypasser hand is the “Taiwan Hot Star Fried Chicken” that indeed very famous up to date.
A very long snake queue at the front store signifies our testament and successfully seduces us to follow the trend.
Been waiting for 20 minutes and finally the moment of truth, chicken chop is XXL and thick in term of sizes (as rumours say) while every bit corner of it is very well seasoned which gives a pure juicy satisfaction on each bite!
If you do not bother with the long queue then this will be the highly recommended snack on the list to try out in Ximending! 😉
*It is recommended for visitors to find a hotel in and around Ximen due to the large amount and variety of cool and interesting event around that area.
